Abstract Project: KOL13

Satellite Receiving Station Ny-Ålesund

Carsten Falck (GFZ)

Two 4m antennas are operated to receive data from the satellites GRACE-Follow-On (A and B), Terrasar-X, Tandem-X and Flying Laptop. Received data is transferred via the local CAMPUS network and the Internet to be processed in near real-time at GFZ Potsdam. Resulting products are maps of the Earth’s gravity and globally distributed vertical profiles of temperature, pressure and humidity, which are usually available within less than three hours. These products are used for weather forecasts and climatological research, e.g., to calculate balances for water and ice masses.
