This long-term project (former KOL06 ) addresses research on the ecology of Arctic seaweeds and their interaction with associated organisms/habitats in the context of environmental change. This sub-project compares biota across European fjords/coastlines with a differential warming history. We will conduct a first intertidal seaweed survey (biomass, biodiversity, % coverage) along the fjord axis. This will allow easier long-term observations of Arctic coastal seaweed systems and sets a baseline for emerging habitats of the future. The sub-project is in cooperation with FACE-IT (The future of Arctic coastal ecosystems identifying transitions in fjord systems and adjacent coastal areas), YESSS (Year-round EcoSystem Study on Svalbard) and CCTBON (Coupled Temperature and Biodiversity Observation Network).
