Aerosol variability and interaction with ambient conditions based on small-scale vertical and horizontal distribution of Arctic measurements

Birgit Wehnert (TROPOS) / Astrid Lampert (Univ.Braunschweig)

The aim of the study - with the acronym AIDA (Aerosol variability and Interaction with ambient conditions based on small-scale vertical and horizontal Distribution of Arctic measurements) - is on achieving a better knowledge of possible sources for new particle formation and its spreading in the spatial distribution at a high Arctic coastal site. Observations are performed at small scales with simultaneous performance of vertical profiles via a tethered balloon and horizontal and vertical measurements of a fixed-wing drone. The airborne observations of aerosol properties and meteorological parameters are further compared with long-term monitoring from the two ground-based stations at Gruvebadet and the Zeppelin observatory as well as with lidar profiles at AWIPEV.
