Abstract Project: AWIPEV_0028

Examining Arctic Atmospheric Ice Particles (and Aerosol-Cloud Interactions in the Atlantic Sector of the Arctic)

Ottmar Möhler (KIT)

This project aims at measuring ice-nucleating particles in the Arctic with a high temporal and vertical resolution. The measurements will be performed with the ground-based Portable Ice Nucleation Experiment (PINE) chamber, located at ZEP as well as GVB, and two customized fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for filter collection of aerosol particles. In addition, filters will be collected on top of the Climate Change Tower. The project will deliver new data sets and thereby will provide new insights into aerosol-cloud processes at cloud height. New results will be achieved by combining the ground-based measurements at high time resolution and the vertical UAV sounding with detailed model runs (i.e. FLEXPART). The INP concentrations measured during the intensive field campaign period in March/April 2024 will benefit and complement other INP and aerosol variables measured at the Zeppelin station.
