Synergistic long-term observations of vertically resolved cloud properties using a novel microwave radiometer/radar for Arctic clouds

The overarching goal of this project is to characterize clouds, precipitation and associated processes in detail at AWIPEV on a long term basis exploiting the synergy of various remote sensing instruments. To this end, the measurements of the 94 GHz and 35 GHz cloud radars, the micro rain radar (MRR), the Pluvio, and the Parsivel will be continuously operated. The project SYNCLOUD plays a crucial role within the Transregional Collaborative Research Centre TR172 ArctiC Amplification (AC)3 , where both, the University of Cologne and Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI), have leading roles. In particular, radar observations at AWIPEV are essential for the subproject E02 of the TR172: Ny lesund column and for the subproject E03: Mixed-phase cloud processes .
