A new scanning lidar in the framework of ACTRIS shall be set up in Ny- lesund. This will be a Raman lidar, measuring aerosol backscatter, extinction and depolarisation. Aerosol and their interaction with clouds remain one of the important shortcomings of current climate models. In addition to aerosol in-situ measurements performed by external partners in Ny- lesund, in this project aerosol occurrences are monitored and particle properties derived by Raman lidar. Due to its scanning ability we aim to measure aerosol properties by lidar directly above the inlets of the aerosol in-situ station to get the closure between optical and microphysical data.
